The North Node of the Moon, a.k.a, Dragon Head is at 13-14 Aries. Aligned with this zodiacal degree, we find the star, Alpheratz.
This star, on one corner of the Great Square of Pegasus, also marks the head of Andromeda, often referred to as “The Chained Lady.” Traditionally associated with both of these constellations, Alpheratz was officially designated as 'alpha Andromeda when the International Astronomical Union declared formal constellation boundaries in 1928. I am intrigued by this connecting star, that brings together the woman and the horse. I much prefer to take her out of chains and watch her fly on the horse, don’t you? Now is beyonf the moment, in our time of women’s re-empowerment.
For years I have been involved in her story, which is my own story, and possibly yours. With the North Node currently at this degree, Andromeda’s story is for all of us at this amazing time of consciousness change and global revolution.
ANDROMEDA UNCHAINED
The mirror of the sky reflects the meaning we project onto it.
Astro-mythology, the stories in the stars, tell the journey of the soul as experienced through time and culture. These stories change over time, indicating new ripples in our collective psychology.
The myth of Andromeda, the Chained Lady, features six constellations covering a large section of the sky. In an era of quantum physics and major paradigm shift, it’s time to unchain the lady who is giving birth to a galaxy. How did Perseus do it? Medusa and Pegasus, Cassiopeia and Cepheus, Cetus and the two lovers all play their parts.
An example of psyche-alogical interplay with the cosmos, I will be sharing bits and pieces of writings about Andromeda from over the years, both expository and imaginal, through mythic revisionings, reflections in art and poetry, from stargazing for over a 1001 nights in the Caribbean and from mermaiding in that amazing turquoise sea while I lived on a Virgin Island. A story has been emerging, which I want to share in an informal way, mainly with Cosmic Inspiration News contributors who are supporting my writings. ENJOY!
Andromeda: I grew up in the sea. On the sea, under the sea. I sold sea shells at the sea shore. Some of us remember being mermaids, don't we? Watching fish move their muscular bodies through the water reminds me. My people. Different tribes, propelled by a variety of fins, and subtle sea angel wings. The mer reproductive system was very sensual, oysters have been erotically stimulating ever since then. But the young were at risk, it was hard to lose so many young ones, each was so special. Some of stayed with our dolphin brethren and interbred with. The air-bound ones went aloft, to live above the surface, quite a sacrifice at first.
We never really left the sea, we always find ourselves there and are healed to bathe in our home waters. I would not, could not stay out of the water. I loved gliding beneath the waters with the turtles and sting rays, small gold-rimmed fish hugging the wake under my belly. My parents gave me my own private beach when I was very young.
At some point, when I was around ten, it was not permitted to swim with the other island children. I was beginning my training. The chosen girls went to one temple and the boys to another. There were only a few of us. Mother Medusa-Mari called for our parents to bring us to the Temple of the Maiden on the night of the new moon in June. (June 6 this year!)
